Harry Schwalb’s first Exhibition, “Pittsburgh Under Glass,” is often credited with awakening the interest of his contemporaries in The Drawing as an end in itself.
The artist is also known as a writer, whose articles on American science and technology have been disseminated worldwide by the U.S. Information Agency. And as a reviewer of art, with rare wit and warmth, on public radio and TV, in journals and the lecture hall.
In 1996, Pittsburgh Magazine established annual prizes in the visual, performing and literary arts. They were named the Harry Schwalb Excellence in the Arts Awards, or more popularly, “the Harrys,” for a distinguished native son.
